Tim Robbins has joined the cast of Martin Campbell’s upcoming adaptation of the DC Comics title “Green Lantern”.
Robbins is set to play Senator Hammond, the stern and disapproving father of the movie’s psychic villain Dr. Hector Hammond, being played by Peter Sarsgaard. Ryan Reynolds is slated to star as the Green Lantern and cocky test pilot Hal Jordan, with Blake Lively onboard as the hero’s love interest, Carol Ferris.
The Green Lantern character Hal Jordan first debuted in DC’s “Showcase” in 1959. A test pilot, he is chosen to become the latest member of the intergalactic police force known as the Green Lantern Corps due to his fearlessness and willpower. He wields a power ring, a weapon that allows him to form green energy constructs that can take any sort of shape or form he can imagine.
Filming on “Green Lantern” is set to start this March in New Orleans. It’s set for a June 17th, 2011 release.
