Both John Mayer and actress Holly Robinson Peete have had a highly publicized week over the same interview, but not for the same reason. Mayer has been apologizing after the news about his now infamous, and what some people are calling racist, Playboy interview hit the newsstands. Peete, who appeared on’21 Jump Street,’ is one person who won’t be accepting his apologies.
According to Popeater.com, when Peete first heard on February 10 about Mayer’s comment in the Playboy interview that she is gorgeous, she was excited. However, even though she didn’t hear the other comments the singer made, including how he’s racist when it comes to his notorious serial dating and using the N-word when referring to black people, at first, she was still perceived as though she was defending Mayer.
While Mayer e-mailed an apology to Peete, she told PEOPLE that she’s disgusted by the singer, and won’t be accepting it. She’s not only upset about his comments, but the fact that he brought her name into the scandal. “At this point, it doesn’t feel right for me to totally accept his apology. It’s time for him to really just drop the frat boy act and take responsibility for everything that he said, no matter how painful it’s going to be for him.”
While the actress added that Mayer made “bigoted and flat out ignorant” statements, she feels he may not be racist. However, “I want to make it clear that this guy has some major issues to sort through and a whole lot of apologies to make,” Peete said.
