Planning to check out Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland this weekend? You’re in for a treat – the trailer for Zack Snyder’s Legend of the Guardians, formerly called The Guardians of Ga’Hoole. The film is based on Kathryn Lasky’s book series and will feature the voices of Abbie Cornish, Emilie de Ravin, Helen Mirren, Geoffrey Rush, Jim Sturgess, and Hugo Weaving. Lasky broke the news on her personal website posting, “My big news is about the Guardians movie! A trailer for it will be shown all across the country attached to Alice in Wonderland starting March fifth.” The trailer clocks in at 2 minutes and 15 seconds and will be shown in 3D. It’s expected to precede Alice in the UK as well.
The film is about a young owl named Soren who’s spellbound by his father’s stories of the legendary Guardians of Ga’Hoole. Kludd ridicules his little brother for his fantastical dream of joining the guardians and strives to become a resourceful hunter. The brothers run into some trouble and fall into the clutches of the evil Pure Ones. Their only hope of survival is to fly to the Great Tree and seek out the Guardians of Ga’Hoole.
Why should you care? Well, other than having a fantastic cast, this feature marks Snyders first attempt at working in the animation department. Slash Film points out how unusual it is that the flick is just six months from its September 24 release, and we’ve yet to see any material. Even more remarkable, our first experience with the Guardians will be on the big screen, not on the computer, in a magazine or on TV.
