Universal Pictures has confirmed that it is developing a sequel to the 1988 action-comedy “Midnight Run”, which starred Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin.
The original film, from director/producer Martin Brest, followed ex-cop and bounty hunter Jack Walsh as he went to pick up a bounty on mob accountant Jonathan “The Duke” Mardukes, and deliver him from New York to LA. A “midnight run”, or easy trip, instead becomes a cross-country race to avoid the Mob, the FBI, and to avoid killing each other.
Screenwriter Timothy Dowling (“Role Models”) is working on a script that would bring back De Niro’s character, Jack Walsh, and pair him with a younger sidekick.
No other information has been released yet.
