Barry Pepper (“Saving Private Ryan”, “The Green Mile”) has signed on to join the cast of the Coen Brothers’ remake of “True Grit” as “Lucky” Ned Pepper.
The character was played Robert Duvall in the 1969 original. Pepper is joinging Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges, Josh Brolin and Hailee Steinfeld.
Ethan and Joel Coen are directing from their own adapted script, and they’re also producing alongside Scott Rudin. Steven Spielberg is attached as executive producer.
The original 1969 film, itself based on the 1968 novel of the same name by Charles Portis, is about a washed-up old former US Marshal hired by the daughter of a rancher to help her hunt down the former ranch hand who gunned down her father in cold blood. Helping the two is a young Texas Ranger, who wants the reward being offered for the murderer.
