Taylor Kitsch (the upcoming “John Carter of Mars”, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, and “Friday Night Lights”) has been announced as starring in Universal’s upcoming adaptation of the Hasbro game Battleship.
Peter Berg will be directing the film, which is being described as a massive Naval battle where international forces gather to battle an alien menace that is found in the Earth’s oceans. The script was written by Jon and Erich Hoeber.
Kitsch will be playing a dashing Naval commander named Alex Hopper.
The original Hasbro game, which was published in 1943 by Hasbro originally as a pad-and-pencil game, is about facing off against another player and calling shots out on a grid to attack points on your opponent’s grid, attacking their “battleships”.
“The Hurt Locker” star Jeremy Renner was originally in the running for the role before Kitsch.
No other casting information has been released yet.
