Screenwriter Andrea Berloff (Oliver Stone’s “World Trade Center) has been announced as writing the script for “Straight Outta Compton” the big-screen story of the rise and fall of hip-hop group N.W.A.
Former N.W.A. members included Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, MC Ren, and DJ Yella. The group came to the public eye in 1988 with their album “Straight Outta Compton”, which featured the controversial song “F*ck tha Police.” Ice Cube departed the group in 1990 following a dispute over royalties, and founding member Eazy-E died in 1995 of complications from AIDS.
Ice Cube and Matt Alvarez are producing the film via Cube Vision alongside Eazy-E’s widow, Tomica Woods, for New Line/Warner Bros.
No casting or distribution news has been announced yet.
