So Dinner for Schmucks wasn’t that great and Twelve was downright awful, but that doesn’t mean 2010 will be a bummer for Zach Galifianakis and Emma Roberts. They’ve still got It’s Kind of a Funny Story on the way and based on the trailer, the film will be hilarious and pretty endearing, too. It’s based on the novel by Ned Vizzini and stars United States of Tara’s Keir Gilchrist as the lead character, Craig. He’s a teen suffering from depression who opts to check himself into a psychiatric hospital. The youth ward is under renovation, so Craig has to bunk with the adults. That’s where he meets Bobby (Galifiankis), another patient who shows him the ropes as well as Noelle (Roberts), a young girl also staying with the older crowd and one who Craig develops a little crush on.
It’s a good thing I caught that trailer when the film’s first poster popped up online because that poster, which is basically a cut-and-paste job, is pretty awful. However, the new one posted on IMP Awards is a different story. It’s pretty generic, but much more visually pleasing than the last and actually represents the material’s sweeter side.
Check out the first poster here and take a look at the new one below as well as the film’s trailer. If it looks as good to you as it does to me, you can check out It’s Kind of a Funny Story when it hits theaters on October 8th.
