Marvel has decided to halt production on its new film ‘Runaways’. While it was reported last month that the movie would begin filming in March, and Keke Palmer was the first cast member to sign on, Marvel didn’t want to rush production.
Rumors began swirling that Marvel lacked confidence in the project. But the studio denied the claims, saying that it already has too many other movies in production that it needs to focus on. So ‘Runaways,’ which was to be helmed by ‘Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist’ director Peter Sollett, based on a script by ‘Lost’ writer Brian K. Vaughn and Drew Pearce, was but on the back burner.
Marvel currently has ‘Captain America: The First Avenger,’ ‘Thor,’ ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Iron Man 3’ in production, and are all scheduled to be released in the next few summers. ‘Runaways’ isn’t intended to be released during the powerhouse season, so Marvel seemed like it was the logical choice to push back.
