With rumors swirling that Paramount wants Tony Scott and Jerry Bruckheimer on board to direct and produce a sequel to the hit 1986 Tom Cruise movie ‘Top Gun,’ Cinemablend is reporting that Scott does, indeed, want to take on the project. While he doesn’t have time to make ‘Top Gun 2′ his next film, Scott said it could not far in the future. He added that “I don’t want to do a remake. I don’t want to do a reinvention. I want to do a new movie.’
There’s no word yet on whether or not Cruise will reprise his role as Maverick. But Scott said he became interested in the project after he met an Air Force pilot who works with unmanned drones. The new movie will reportedly resemble scenes of Denzel Washington working the subway transit control room in last year’s remake of ‘The Taking of Pelham One Two Three,’ except it will involve aircraft, like the first film.
