While rumors are continuously swirling about the progress of ‘Star Trek 2,’ recent reports state that the script is expected to be finalized in late December, Cinemablend.com is reporting. While writers Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof are constantly picking up projects, Viacom COO Tom Dooley has confirmed that Abrams is on board to produce and the trio is putting the finishing touches on the script.
J.J. Abrams, the founder of Bad Robot Productions, who also directed the first ‘Star Trek,’ is currently attached to produce the sequel. However, he’s not attached to helm the sequel yet, despite the fact that Paramount wants him to return to the director’s chair.
The sequel has been scheduled to be released on June 29, 2012. That date was announced in January, and Paramount still hopes to stick to that day, despite the fact that the script isn’t yet finished and a director hasn’t been signed.
