The release date for the proposed Universal movie based on the Hasbro game ‘Ouija Board,’ which is being produced by Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes production company, is being pushed back, Slashfilm.com is reporting. The studio’s executives have been pushing for a Thanksgiving 2012 release, but have yet to secure a director. The executives previously wanted ‘Taken’ director Pierre Morel to helm the film, but he didn’t agree on their proposed script.
Universal is still pushing the ‘Ouija’ movie for a holiday 2012 release, however. Movies based on Hasbro games are a high priority for studios, as penalties from the game company kick in if the film isn’t released within a certain time limit. The studio also has to release the movie when the new merchandise is released, and those dates are often set years in advance.
