Russell Crowe is pushing 20th Century Fox to make a sequel to his 2003 action film ‘Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World,’ Cinemablend.com is reporting. However, the movie, which was based on the 1969 novel of the same name by Patrick O’Brien, opened to only modest results at the box office in November 2003.
The Academy Award-winning actor hasn’t given up on making another ‘Master and Commander,’ however. Crowe admires the film so much that he’s telling his fans via his Twitter page to pressure Fox to make the sequel.
Crowe starred as Captain Jack Aubrey in ‘Master and Commander,’ which was nominated for 10 Oscars in 2004 and ended up winning Best Cinematography and Sound Effects Editing. The nautical historical book series features 20 novels, which are set during the Napoleonic Wars. The film’s director, Peter Weir, has said he doesn’t intend on going ahead with a sequel, as the film didn’t do financially well enough to garner a follow-up.
