Len Wiseman’s upcoming remake of ‘Total Recall’ has been set to start shooting at the new Pinewood Toronto Studios in Canada, Comingsoon.net is reporting. In an effort to attract more big-budget films to the city, the Infrastructure Ontario agency, in conjunction with Build Toronto, has already secured the reboot. The movie, with an estimated budget of $200 million, will be the largest-budget project to ever be filmed in Toronto.
Columbia Pictures, which is distributing ‘Total Recall,’ has already signed the deal with Pinewood Toronto. No actors have been confirmed to be starring in the project yet. However, Variety is reporting that the studio has offered the role of Douglas Quaid/Hauser, which was made famous to Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original film, to Colin Farrell.
While no official starting date for shooting has been revealed, The Toronto Star has stated that filming will begin in March 2011. Pinewood, which has the largest sound stage in North America, is hoping that the filming of ‘Total Recall’ will lure other blockbuster films to its waterfront studio. It’s also the only Canadian studio capable of handling movies with budgets over $100 million with complex special effects.
