McG has been picked to direct Universal Pictures’ upcoming film adaptation of the Hasbro Ouija board game, Slashfilm.com is reporting. The movie, which was penned by ‘TRON: Legacy’ screenwriters Edward Kitsis and Adma Horowitz, is going ahead with its scheduled November 9, 2012 release date.

While it was originally expected that the film would have a supernatural theme to it, given the nature of the game, Universal has confirmed that it’s actually going to be a family action-adventure movie, much like the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ series. McG was picked in part because he has become known for directing action movies, such as ‘Charlie’s Angels’ and ‘Terminator: Salvation.’

The director will begin helming the Ouija movie over the summer, after he finishes filming ‘This Means War’ with Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine. Michael Bay and his horror-based production company, Platinum Dunes, which is planning on branching into action films, are on board to produce the Ouija movie.
