After raking in almost $165,000 at the box office and being nominated for Best Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy at this year’s Golden Globe Awards, screenwriters Jon and Erich Hoeber have been rehired by Summit Entertainment to pen a sequel to last year’s action-comedy ‘RED,’ Collider.com is reporting. If the studio is happy with the final script from the Hoebers, who wrote the original film, the highest-grossing Summit movie outside of the ‘Twilight’ films, it will officially green-light the follow-up.
Summit is also so happy with the two writers that studio officials also hired them to work on the script for the upcoming thriller ‘Man on a Ledge,’ starring Sam Worthington. The Hoebers are also working on the script for director Peter Berg’s upcoming film ‘Battleship.’
Even though Summit has commissioned the Hoebers to write the script for the ‘RED’ sequel, there’s no word yet if the original cast, including Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich and Mary-Louise Parker, will be returning to the follow-up. But fans and critics alike responded to the stars of the original, which is based on the DC Comics series of the same name, so much that they are likely to return.
