The winners of the second annual Dorian Awards, which honor the best in television and film, have been announced by the Gay & Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association (GALECA). Critics and entertainment journalists nationwide comprise GALECA’s membership, and one of their duties is to nominate TV programs and movies from an assortment of categories, not just LGBT-themed works, for the Dorians. But one goal of GALECA and the Dorians is to create stronger support for at-risk youth, equal rights and HIV prevention and recovery.
One television series that was heavily honored by the Dorians was ‘Glee,’ as Jane Lynch, who portrays cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester, won for TV Musical or Comedy Performance of the year. Darren Criss, who portrays Blaine on the hit series, also won an award in the We’re Wilde About You Rising Star category. The series also won LGBT-Themed TV Show of the Year and TV Musical or Comedy of the Year.
Other television wins include ‘The Good Wife’ for TV Drama of the Year. Michael C. Hall won the TV Drama Performance of the Year Award for his portrayal of the title character in the Showtime series ‘Dexter.’ The HBO series ‘Hung’ won the Unsung TV Show of the Year award.
In the movie categories, ‘I Am Love’ won Film of the Year, while Annette Bening won Film Performance of the Year for her portrayal of Nic in ‘The Kids Are All Right.’ The Jim Carrey movie ‘I Love You Phillip Morris’ won the LGBT-themed Film of the Year award.
