Summit Entertainment is currently in talks to distribute the big screen adaptation of the controversial novel “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky, collider.com is reporting. The news comes after rumors began circulating in May that Emma Watson and ‘Percy Jackson & the Olympians’ actor Logan Lerman were signed to appear in the film.
John Malkovich is also attached to ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ as a producer, and Chbosky is on boarad to write and direct the film. The book, which has been criticized for its frequent references to drugs, sex homosexuality and suicide, follows the life of a shy teen who assumes the name Charlie, who will played by Lerman in the film. charlie writes letters to an anonymous person, describing his life in the 10th grade. Watson has signed on to play Charlie’s friend Sam.
There is no word yet when the movie will be released, as Watson is busy with her next film, ‘My Week With Marilyn,’ co-starring Kenneth Branagh and Michelle Williams. She’s also set to appear in the final ‘Harry Potter’ film, ‘The Deathy Hollows: Part II,’ which is scheduled to hit theaters on July 15. Lerman is also set to play D’Artagnan in Paul W.S. Anderson’s new adaptation of ‘The Three Musketeers,’ which will debut in theaters on October 14.
