Following in the footsteps of some of the most celebrated television and movie actors in history, Regis Philbin is slated to be the next star to receive the TV Land Legend Award, the network’s President, Larry W. Jones, announced via a press release. Of the network’s pick, Jones said the famed talk show host “is an adored television icon…TV Land is thrilled to have an opportunity to honor him.’
The ninth annual awards ceremony will be held at New York’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on April 10, and will be broadcast on TV Land on April 17. It will celebrate Philbin’s over 50 year career in the entertainment industry. Some of his credits include hosting ‘LIVE!’ since 1988, the once-popular prime-time edition of the game show ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’ and the first season of ‘America ‘s Got Talent.’ The award announcement comes after Philbin confirmed last month that he will be retiring from ‘LIVE!’ this summer.
Besides the Legend Award and his numerous Emmy Awards, including the 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award, Philbin also broke his own existing Guinness World Record in September 2010. He holds the record for Most Hours on Camera, with 16,548.5 hours on screen over his career.
