It’s a miracle that “The Beaver” will even see the light of day due to the manic, racist and misogynist-laden rants of its star, Mel Gibson. But according to CinemaBlend, the film will have one more hurdle: “Thor”.
According to the site via The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s release date has moved from March 23 to May 6, causing it to have to face off against the Marvel Studio event-movie “Thor”, a film which is destined to rake in a lot of “popcorn movie” money with or a without a boost. With both films coming out that day, you don’t even need to ask which film will do better (unless tons of people go see “The Beaver” simply to fulfill some sort of voyeurism need). In fact, there is not a better box office gift to give to Marvel than to have “The Beaver” come out on the same day as “Thor”.
Like CinemaBlend, this is a big mistake for the Jodie Foster-directed film, even if it’s going to be in a limited release. Surely, out of all of the days for the film to come out, a day when a destined box-office juggernaut is also set for release is not the best way to promote your film.
