Remember when Christian Bale lost all of that weight and looked skeletal and freaky in “The Machinist”? Well, he’s about to lose a lot of weight again, this time for the film “Concrete Island”, according to Entertainment Weekly
The film, directed by Brad Anderson (who also directed Bale in “The Machinist”) will feature Bale’s character, a rich architect, who becomes stranded in a section of a fenced-off West London wasteland and must survive using only what he brought with him in his car and what he’s able to find in the area.
The actor has already recovered from his weight loss for his role as Dickey Eklund in “The Fighter”. If he’s going back to the weight he was at for playing Dickey, then at least that’s better than the amount of weight he lost for “The Machinist”. People might not be shying away from the screen; I can’t even look at a picture of him from “The Machinist” without getting freaked out. He also lost weight for “Rescue Dawn”.Conversely, Bale has bulked up for playing Bruce Wayne in the “Batman” films.
While his extreme use of weight gain and weight loss as a means of portraying a character is partly admirable and partly scary, expect for him to be fully committed, as always, to his role in this upcoming film.
