“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” director Shane Black might be in the director’s chair for “Iron Man 3”, according to CinemaBlend via The Hollywood Reporter. According to the sites, the director will fill the void Jon Favreau, the director of the first two “Iron Man” films, left after splitting with Marvel Studios. If Black gets the job, he might also write a draft of the storyline.
According to CinemaBlend, Favreau left Marvel Studios due to creative differences; he didn’t like the direction the story was going. Iron Man himself, Robert Downey, Jr., is reportedly not happy about the new direction either, but he is still under contract. All that can be hoped for is that the new director will bring something that might make the new direction a bit more palatable.
The upside (I guess) is that Black has directed Downey before; Downey was directed by Black in “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”.
The storyline of the next “Iron Man” film is, for now, a secret, but of course, it will follow Tony Stark as he fights crime, all the while keeping his snarky, “I’m rich” attitude. Even though the actual storyline hasn’t been released and the director situation is up in the air, the film is expected to be out in theaters by May 3, 2013.
