Abraham Lincoln finally has his own Mary Todd. Well, it’s more like they’ve finally cast the female actress to play Mary Todd, Lincoln’s wife in the upcoming supernatural flick “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.” “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead will take the role, starring opposite Benjamin Walker who’s playing the fictitious version of a revenge-hungry incarnation of our sixteenth president.
“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” is a mash-up novel written by Seth Grahame-Smith, which plays itself off as a fictionalized series of diary notes about the president’s secret agenda to wipe out the undead creatures of the night after they killed his mother. His ulterior motive to defeat vampires continues on throughout his presidency as he hunts them down throughout the course of the Civil War.
Grahame-Smith penned the adaptation, set to be directed by Timur Bekmambetov. The director’s previous credits include “Day Watch,” “Night Watch” and the loosely comic book adapted movie “Wanted.” Those already in the cast of “Vampire Hunter” include Anthony Mackie and Dominic Cooper. Principal photography for “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” begins later on this spring in order to reach their June 22nd, 2012 release date.
Mary Elizabeth Weinstead recently wrapped up her role in the prequel to “The Thing,” directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. “The Thing” prequel makes it’s way into theaters on October 14th.
