According to The Hollywood Reporter, writer-actor Ben Schwartz is in the process of penning a “Soapdish” remake for Paramount.

As stated in the article, Schwartz is both a successful writer and actor, having written for “Robot Chicken” as well as writing Hugh Jackman’s opening number for the 81st Academy Awards (for which he was awarded an Emmy). He has played in indie comedy “Peep World” (opening March 25) and has landed a role in the Showtime pilot “House of Lies”. He also showcases his writing work and short films on his site RejectedJokes.com.

Some of you might remember the movie “Soapdish”, but if you’re like this blogger and was just a small 3-year-old kid when it was in the theaters, the 1991 film, fittingly produced by Aaron Spelling as well as Alan Greisman, chronicles the behind-the-scenes antics of a soap opera cast. The film starred Whoopi Goldberg, Robert Downey, Jr., Kevin Kline, Teri Hatcher, Sally Field and many more.

Like I alluded to before, I’ve never seen the film, but it would be neat if they did what the cast for the “21 Jump Street” cast and crew are trying to do with Johnny Depp and somehow get RDJ or Kline to make a cameo and/or reprise a role or something. It could be fun. What’s there to lose, anyway?
