The Hollywood Reporter has stated that singer/actors Justin Timberlake and Jennifer Hudson will present awards at the Oscars this year.
Timberlake and Hudson are in the league of singers who also have critically-acclaimed acting chops. Hudson won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Effie White in “Dreamgirls”. Hudson is also playing Winnie Mandela in an indie biopic simply called “Winnie” opposite Terrence Howard as Nelson Mandela; according to The Hollywood Reporter, Hudson has finished filming for the biopic.
The duties of being a presenter also aren’t new to Hudson; according to The Hollywood Reporter, she presented the Best Supporting Actor award to Javier Bardem for his role in “No Country for Old Men”.
Timberlake showed he can do both family-friendly roles (Boo-Boo in “Yogi Bear”) as well as grittier ones in his turn as Napster creator Sean Parker in “The Social Network” (which is nominated in this year’s Best Picture category) was, by many accounts, mesmerizing, and quite a few people feel his work (as well as Andrew Garfield’s work) in the film was snubbed by the Academy. Timberlake showed his ability to take on a gritty role in the 2006 movie “Alpha Dog”
The 83rd Annual Academy Awards will air on ABC at 8 p.m. EST/ 5 p.m. PST.
