Performers are strong in many areas of entertainment, mainly in acting, dancing and singing. At least we know that “Dancing with the Stars” champion Julianne Hough has a couple of those skills locked in. Maybe they came in handy when she got the new role for New Line Cinema’s adaptation of the musical “Rock of Ages.” The actress will be playing the role of Sherrie Christian in a film directed and choreographed by Adam Shankman.
Hough will be acting alongside Tom Cruise and Mary J. Blige. “Rock of Ages” was penned for the big screen by the show’s creator Chris D’Arienzo. The story centers on a couple that meets at the Sunset Strip club Rock of Ages, falls in love and tries to stay together while living the rock life. Her character is a girl who just made it into Los Angeles from Kansas, hoping to make her big break in Hollywood.
Apparently Hough had a wonderful audition, because Shankman immediately saw the dancer/actress as the perfect fit for the role. “I asked her if she wanted to be in a movie with Tom Cruise and she wanted to not get on the plane so she could celebrate,” he said. “Her audition was surreal — maybe the best I’ve ever seen.”
Hough was last seen on the big screen in the musical-like film “Burlesque.”
