remember when Shockya reported about Channing Tatum’s pitch for a new interpretation of “Peter Pan”? Well, Sony is seriously looking at taking Tatum up on his offer, according to Deadline.
Also remember when I said that it would make common sense for Channing Tatum to be in a supervisory role? Well, apparently, common sense is wrong in this case. According to Deadline, the film is being marketed as a starring vehicle for Tatum. A starring vehicle. He’s going to be playing Peter Pan?!
Well, this could work, I mean, it’s not as if we know the actual story that’s being shipped around to studios. It could be similar to Robin Williams’ “Hook”. I would like to at least think that the story could be similar to “Hook”, if only to keep my mind at ease.
But even aside from how Peter Pan will look or act with Tatum in the role, the basis behind the pitch is to remake the classic tale into a dark re-imagining. How dark will the re-imagining be? Will it make any sense to the original story? I believe the original story has the potential to do some dark elements, what with the Lost Boys and the idea of swordfighting and death what have you, but the type of darkness that “Peter Pan” will be re-imagined to is one of the things that will make or break the outcome of the movie. Like, if it’s “Pan’s Labyrinth” dark, but also with a solid story, then we’ll have a winner. But if it’s Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” dark, where it’s all art but no substance behind it, then Houston, we have a problem.
What do you think about this? Is there needless care here? Will Channing Tatum turn it out? Leave your comments below.
