There’s so many projects that make their way in and out of development in Hollywood that sometimes it’s hard to keep track. They slip through the cracks of development and it’s still a sad but common tale that’s been re-occurring in this day and age. The same kind of fate has befallen the project “Dallas Buyer’s Club” for awhile now. The project, based on a true tale, has been hoping in and out of development for years.
The production could finally be lifting off the ground with the couple of new additions to the independent project. Actor Matthew McConaughey will be starring in the cast with Jean Marc Valle on board to direct.
Although the project has been on the back-burner for awhile under Universal Pictures, that doesn’t mean there has not been any signs of life with the film. For awhile actor Brad Pitt was circling the movie, even luring Strike Entertainment into the producing fold. Although the production company is still attached, Pitt is not. Quickly after Pitt’s interest waned, “Blue Valentine” actor Ryan Gosling circled the leading role with Craig Gillespie set to direct. The combination made sense since the two worked previously on “Lars & the Real Girl,” but even then things didn’t work out and the project has been in limbo ever since.
Now that McConaughey is attached to star with “The Young Victoria” helmer Valle in the director’s chair, maybe the project has the momentum it needs to in order to finally lift itself off the ground. Universal Pictures originally had a hand in the production, but after so many stalls Valle and company are making the choice to go independent.
“Dallas” focuses on Ron Woodroof (McConaughey), a heterosexual Dallas electrician who was diagnosed with AIDS in 1986. Instead of heeding the doctor’s advice, who said the man only had a few months to live, he began a smuggling operation for alternative treatments that not only kept him alive longer than predicted but the same happened for a few other people he became acquainted with.
