In an interview with Entertainment Weekly this week in an effort to promote his new film “Contraband” and the DVD release of “The Fighter”, Mark Wahlberg revealed that he’s trying to get everyone excited for more “Fighter” films.
“…I’m trying to plant the idea in everyone’s head that we should do–not five or six ‘Fighters’ like ‘Rocky’–but one more because the big thing Micky Ward was famous for was his three epic battles with Arturo Gatti. So, we’re talking about possibly one more run at it,” he told the site.
He also wants to get the same cast that helped propel “The Fighter” to the Oscar-caliber level it achieved. “Everybody had such an amazing experience making the movie that I can’t imagine they wouldn’t want to go back. But it’s still kind [of] in the early stages.”
He also stated that Micky and his brother Dickie (whom Christian Bale portrayed in the film), are excited about the prospect of a sequel. “They’re both thrilled at the possiblity,” Wahlberg said. “I just keep getting the phone calls…[f]rom Micky…[s]aying, ‘Make sure you get it done.'”
