According to CinemaBlend, a reboot of the 2003 film Daredevil is in the works. David Slade is expected to direct the reboot for Fox.
“Daredevil” is one of many superhero reboots or re-tellings in the works; reboots in superhero genre include “RoboCop”, “Fantastic Four”, “Spider-Man”, “Superman” and “X-Men: First Class”. Including new film adaptations such as 2010’s “Kick-Ass”, this year’s “Thor” and “Captain America”, and even the “Wonder Woman” television show, it’s no wonder that “Daredevil” would be given a second look. Also, according to the article, the “Daredevil” property is one of the few things left out of the Disney/Marvel agreement, which is probably why Fox is looking to remake the film into a bankable franchise.
If you’ll recall, the original “Daredevil” movie, starring Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, and Michael Clarke Duncan, was a veritable bomb at the box office and wasn’t a hit with comic book fans. The spin-off “Elektra”, starring Garner, wasn’t that big of a hit either.
As to how they plan on rebooting it, one can only hope that they make it so that the fans will actually support it this time. But here’s a wild idea: instead of doing a reboot of something, how about make an original film ? Yes, sometimes reboots are justifiable, like the reboot of the “Batman” franchise after the turn it took in the ’90s, but all of these reboots and re-tellings…please people! An original idea would be nice.
