The American music scene has the tendency to overlook bands who will not garner massive success over the radio waves. But thanks to the European music scene, these bands and soloists, eventually gain enough attention to come to the U.S. This pattern of triumph has brought the Nashville, Tennessee rock band, Blackwater James, to our attention. So, thank you Europe, once again.
The Tennessee natives consist of vocalists and guitarist, Christopher James, bassist, Josh Burns, guitarist, Deanna Passarella and drummer, Todd Schlosser. The quartet released their debut full-length, self-titled album back in June 2009 and the 11 track album achieved a considerable amount of international notice. The single, “Rock Steady” was in the top-40 rotation in over 3-dozen stations in the UK. We take our hats off to you, Blackwater James.
Blackwater James can climb a notch higher on their ladder of musical achievements with the release of their 6 song EP, Vol.1. We don’t often like to compare another band to any other. But as long as there are some noticeable differences, we can let the comparison slide on through.
Resembling the sound of Buckcherry, Blackwater James’ VOL.1 is an edgy, powerhouse EP that exudes the band’s talent, vocally and instrumentally. The first single, “Blackheart,” will not let your interest waver until the song has reached its 4:10min completion. Comprised of anthem-esque beats, as well as blues instrumentals, “Blackheart” is a stand out favorite. The heart of the track might be black, but its musical status should be gold.
Christopher James’ vocals on “Blackheart” lure a listener in with the their dynamic intonation. The modulation of his voice thrives in the track, “Closer To Free” as well.
BLACKWATER JAMES continues to impress us throughout this EP. Complimenting a band for their impeccable background vocals is not a typical form of praise in the music world. The background vocals of the tracks, “Come On” and “Set It Off” are so on key that they are recognizable and not remotely overlooked in the least bit.
The well-rounded tunes of Blackwater James are as musically authentic as they are radio friendly; the ideal combination in the world of music. Very few bands break into the industry genuinely, so we honored to announce Blackwater James is part of this elite club.
