Fresh from Relativity Media today is news that Armie Hammer (“The Social Network”) will play the prince in an untitled “Snow White” film.
Hammer will join Oscar winner Julia Roberts, who will play the evil queen. According to the press release, pre-production has already started, and principal photography will start in May.
According to the press release, the film will separate itself from the fairy tale in favor of providing more comedy and adventure as well as a modern spin on the story. In the film, the evil stepmother queen kills Snow White’s father and destroys the kingdom. Snow White, with her band of cantankerous dwarves, plan on taking the kingdom back.
Aside from “The Social Network”, Hammer is currently starring in “J. Edgar”, which also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Josh Lucas, Naomi Watts, and Judi Dench. Julia Roberts has starred in films like “Pretty Woman”, “Mystic Pizza”, and “Erin Brokovich”.
The film, which is directed by the Tarsem Singh (whose visually-exciting films include “The Cell”, “Immortals”, “The Fall”) is expected to be in theaters June 29, 2012.
