In “Why more reboots?!” news, CinemaBlend is reporting that the Batman franchise will be rebooted after the release of the third Christopher Nolan-verse Batman film, “The Dark Knight Rises”.
According to the Warner Brothers executive Jeff Robinov in an interview with the L.A. Times, “We have the third Batman, but then we’ll have to reinvent Batman… Chris Nolan and [wife and producing partner] Emma Thomas will be producing it, so it will be a conversation with them about what the next phase is.”
As a longtime Batman fan, I’ve been thrilled with the Nolan-verse Batman films (yes, I’m one of those people who figuratively bows down to Heath Ledger’s Joker). Because I’m such a fan, I’d love for the films to just end after the third one and for Warner Brothers to wait a few years until they jump back into Batman-lore. But to reboot the entire thing right after “Dark Knight Rises”?! Come on, WB! Give me (and other fans) a second to breathe!
Reboots and remakes have been en vogue with studios for years now, but this feels like overkill. Could they just leave Batman alone and move onto Robin or other DC characters like The Green Arrow or The Flash or, my favorite, The Martian Manhunter? Just leave Batman alone for right now.
