Spurred on by the announcement Rihanna made about not starring in “The Bodyguard” remake, movie ticketing site MovieTickets.com released the results from a poll they held to see who their readers would would want to see fill the roll Whitney Houston originated in the film.
According to the poll, which had over 16,000 people participating, an overwhelming number want to see Jennifer Hudson take on the role–51 percent, in fact. The runner-up was Beyonce with 25 percent. Other singers considered were Christina Aguilera at 15 percent and Lea Michele at 9 percent.
From a selling standpoint, Jennifer Hudson would be a great choice. I remember in one other article about “The Bodyguard” remake, I said that Beyonce would probably get approached about the role, and she probably still will. But, if we go back to the award season “Dreamgirls” was a part of, Beyonce was nominated for several things, but Hudson beat her out, winning the Oscar and the Grammy that year. Having those two accolades on a poster or commercial for the movie would be a great thing for movie company to tout. Again, I’m not saying that Beyonce can’t do the job, and I’m also not saying that she won’t get picked to play Whitney Houston’s role, because Beyonce’s got quite a few Grammys, too. But the Oscar does count for something. That Oscar is an edge.
Who do you want to see sing “Queen of the Night” in the remake?
