Director/Public Enemy No. 1 of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” fans worldwide M. Night Shyamalan is back in the directing chair. According to Entertainment Weekly, Shyamalan is planning a film that is set 1000 years in the future in which a boy travels across the scary terrain of an apocalyptic Earth to save himself and his estranged father after ship crash lands. Set to star in the film are Will and Jaden Smith.
It’s an understatement to say that Shyamalan has hit a rough patch in his career. After the groundbreaking film “The Sixth Sense”, things have been slowly and steadily going downhill for the director, culminating in the experience that is “The Last Airbender”, the film adaptation of the beloved cartoon epic, “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. However, say what you will about Shyamalan and his directing style, but he’s sure to get quite a few butts in seats with the Smith Dynasty attached to the film. With the legions of fans both Smiths have–Will from his rapping and “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” days as well as his own solid movie career and Jaden, who is best friends with Justin Bieber and has a following from “The Karate Kid” and “The Pursuit of Happyness” (also starring his father)–Shyamalan could have box-office gold on his hands, no matter how bad the story might be.
So what do you think? Are you ready to see Shyamalan back at the helm of a film? Have you finally forgiven him enough to want to see this new film? Sound off below.
