The pilot for the drama series ‘Jane By Design’ is expected to be the next show picked up by ABC Family in its most aggressive development season to date, deadline.com is reporting. It’s rumored ABC Family will make a decision on the show as early as this week, making it the fifth new series pickup for the cable network this year. The comedy series ‘State of Georgia’ and the dramas ‘The Nine Lives of Chloe King,’ ‘Switched at Birth’ and ‘The Lying Game’ have all already been greenlit.
‘Jane By Design’ follows 16-year-old Jane as she lands a job at a retail company after they mistake her for being older. The show was written by April Blair, directed by Lev L. Spiro and produced by Gavin Polone. Erica Dasher plays the title role.
ABC Family picked up the five series, in what is its largest slate of new series ever, as part of its rapid expansion in original programming. Before this year, the most the network had ever picked up was three. The five new shows will join ‘The Secret Life of the American Teenager,’ ‘Pretty Little Liars’ and ‘Melissa and Joey,’ which are returning this summer. This will expand ABC Family’s schedule of original programming to three nights a week.
