Stop the presses! Entertainment Weekly has reported that “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” have been cancelled! According to the article, the two long-running soap-operas have been given the shaft in order to make room for two new lifestyle shows.
“All My Children” will go off the air in September and “One Life To Live” will finish its run January 2012. After Both shows have finished, the two new lifestyle shows, “The Chew” and “The Revolution”, will air.
“The Chew” is a show that will be all about “the world of food and beyond”. The show will be produced by “Paul Deen’s Home Cooking” producer Gordon Elliot and will star “What Not to Wear”‘s Clinton Kelly, “Iron Chef America” chefs and Food Network stars Mario Batali and Michael Symon, “Top Chef”‘s Carla Hall, and nutrition expert Daphne Oz.
“The Revolution” is from executive producer JD Roth and 3 Ball Productions (“The Biggest Loser”) and will be all about healthy lifestyles and transformations. The “unique concept” ABC is touting about the show is this: “Each week, one woman’s five-month weight loss journey will unfold in just five days, with daily results and a final transformation reveal on Friday.” (Unrelated tidbit: Roth was the voice of Jonny Quest for the first season of “The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest”.)
At the very least, ABC Daytime President Brian Frons said that while he’s excited about the new changes, losing “Children” and “One Life” is “bittersweet”. I’ll say it’s bittersweet, emphasis on the “bitter” part. Many people in America have grown up with these shows, religiously follow these shows, and will be saddened by the loss of these shows.
