Nick Cassevetes has dropped his role as director of the biopic “Gotti: Three Generations”, according to Variety.

A spokesman for Cassavetes said the director was released from his contract due to scheduling conflicts with his other film project, “Yellow”, an indie drama.

In order to keep the film on track for a 2013 release, the film’s producers are quickly looking to find a director to fill the void.

The film will chronicle the reign of John Gotti, Sr. as the head of the Gambino crime family. The story will be told from John Gotti, Jr.’s point of view; actor-writer Leo Rossi, the writer of the screenplay and states the film will focus on the relationship between a father who lived by the mob code and a son who decided to leave the mob world behind and make a stab at redemption. Thus far, will star John Travolta as Gotti, Jr., Joe Pesci as Angelo Ruggiero, and Travolta’s daughter Ella Blue in a featured role. Lindsay Lohan is in negotiations to play Victoria Gotti. The film will be shot on location in New York.
