Jim Carrey is the latest actor to sign on to appear on the seventh season finale of ‘The Office,’ huffingtonpost.com is reporting. The details about Carrey’s role are being kept secret, as NBC hasn’t even confirmed the casting. But it’s rumored that his character will go after the manager position left vacant by Michael Scott at Dunder Mifflin on the episode, which airs May 19.
Also guest-starring on the finale, which will run for 50 minutes, are Will Arnett, Ray Romano, James Spader, Catherine Tate and Ricky Gervais. Will Ferrell temporarily replaces Steve Carell, who portrays Michael and whose last episode airs on April 28. But Ferrell’s character, DeAngelo Vickers, won’t appear on the finale.
Arnett, Gervais and Romano aren’t likely to be Carell’s permanent replacement, as they all have previous long-term commitments. ‘The Office’s executive producer, Paul Lieberstein, has said that employees from within Dunder Miffllin will also interview for Michael’s job. But he added that it’s unlikely that any of the mockumentary’s current cast will be promoted to the lead character.
John Krasinski, who portrays Jim Halpert on the show, has said that even he doesn’t know who will replace Carell. He added that there might not even be a replacement, and the show might shift directions.
