Shane Black, who has signed onto take over the directorial duties of ‘Iron Man 3’ from Jon Favreau, who helmed the first two films, will in fact be working on the script for the second sequel in the superhero series, Cinemablend is reporting. The director will co-wrote the script with Drew Pearce, who is also penning another upcoming Marvel movie, ‘Runaways.’
While Black was believed to write the script on his own when he first signed on to direct ‘Iron Man 3’ in February, Pearce was reportedly brought in to help keep the movie “family-friendly.” Black, who previously worked with star Robert Downey, Jr. on his directorial debut, the 2005 film ‘Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,’ is known for writing such rated R films as ‘Lethal Weapon’ and ‘The Last Boy Scout.’
Though Black is believed to be coming up with the majority of the ideas for the script, Pearce is also believed to have been hired because ‘Kiss Kiss Bang Bang’ is the last major movie he wrote and directed. Marvel is reportedly worried about Black’s ability to deliver another blockbuster film. ‘Iron Man 3’ is scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2013.
