The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that movie mogul Tyler Perry is about to launch his third television series on TBS. The series, called, “For Better or Worse”, will replace “House of Payne”, which will be ending after 222 episodes.
“For Better or Worse” will follow Michael Jai White (“Black Dynamite”, “The Dark Knight”) and Tasha Smith (“Couples Retreat”)’s characters Marcus (a television anchor) and his wife, salon owner Angela. This couple was also in the Tyler Perry films “Why Did I Get Married” and “Why Did I Get Married Too?”.
Like the other two series run by Perry, “Better” will have an initial ten episodes air on the network. If the show reaches its ratings threshold, the network will order 90 more episodes. Of course, it’s obvious to assume the show will reach–and probably surpass–ratings expectations.
Michael Wright, executive vice president and head of programming for TBS, TNT, Turner Classic Movies, said, “Tyler Perry’s series have been tremendously successful for TBS, helping establish the network as a prime destination for African-American viewers. Given such a remarkable track record, we’re excited for the opportunity to expand our relationship with Tyler Perry and Debmar-Mercury with the new series ‘For Better or Worse’.”
