After a few questionable promotional materials, 20th Century FOX has released the first theatrical trailer for “X-Men: First Class”, the prequel to the popular movie series based on the popular comic book series. The new film will take place in the 1960s as Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) assemble an elite team of misunderstood mutants while they found a school for gifted youth.
Will this trailer receive a similar backlash towards aforementioned promotional materials or will it get praised by comic book geeks alike? You be the judge.
The trailer features a lot of the mutants displaying or discovering their superpowers, which doesn’t bode well for the general mystery of the film. My first impressions of the trailer is that it feels like I’ve already seen the movie through the trailer. Matthew Vaughn (“Kick-Ass”) could make this a good movie but there’s really no telling from the trailer. The group is fun and sexy enough but we thought “Wolverine” was going to be a good movie based on its trailers. I still remain cautions because there hasn’t been a good “X-Men” movie since 2003.
“X-Men: First Class” will also feature Jennifer Lawrence, January Jones, Rose Byrne and Kevin Bacon. The movie will hit theaters on June 3rd.
