Dean Koontz’s 1985 mystery-suspense novel Twilight Eyes may be adapted by Starz as its first limited series, Deadline is reporting. The news comes after Chris Albrecht became the cable network’s CEO last year, and said the channel was going to start focusing on mini and limited series.
The novel follows psychic Slim MacKenzie as he uses his gifts, Twilight Eyes, to hunt Goblins. The monsters are dangerous because they’re able to mimic humans.
The limited series is reportedly in high development at Starz, even though Koontz has stayed away from television adaptations of his books over the last decade. The author’s former agent, Rob Lee, said Koontz originally wanted to turn Twilight Eyes into a 6-8 hour miniseries in the 1990s. However, the broadcast networks, which primarily aired miniseries in the ’90s, weren’t interested in airing such a long adaptation.
Koontz agreed to the Starz adaptation after Lee and writer Stephen Tolkin pitched the idea to him. Lee proposed airing the miniseries on a cable network to stay true to the book, which he described as “quite violent and sensual.” Starz agreed to pick it up as a premium development deal. Koontz will executive produce the adaptation with Lee and Tolkin, who is writing the script.
