Saoirse Ronan is now attached to star in the film adaptation of best-selling author of “The Twilight Saga”, Stephenie Meyer’s “The Host”. The screenplay is reported to be penned by Andrew Niccol (“Gattaca”, “Lord of War”), who was at one time attached to direct, but instead will be directed by Susanna White, who most recently directed, “Nanny McPhee Returns” and the critically acclaimed HBO mini-series, “Generation Kill”.
Deadline broke this piece of casting news and reports Saoirse Ronan will play the lead role of Melanie Stryder, one of the last humans on Earth battling an alien species called Souls. These “Souls” are like parasites, who attach themselves to humans and engulf their consciousness and personalities.
The concept for this project is said to be more visual than Stephenie Meyer’s widely popular young adult series, “The Twilight Saga”. Needless to say, Meyer’s has a huge fan base solely based on this property. I can confidently say, “The Host” will also be a huge hit.
Saoirse Ronan was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in Joe Wright’s “Atonement” in 2007. Since then she starred in Peter Jackson’s “The Lovely Bones” and is attached to “The Hobbit”. Most recently, Ronan starred as the title role in Joe Wright’s “Hanna”.
