Even though nothing is completely dried in ink yet, Deadline is reporting that Cameron Diaz will star in a rom-com film adaptation of the popular how-to book “What to Expect When You’re Expecting”. The film adaptation of the manual, written by Heidi Murkoff, has a script written by Heather Hach and Shauna Cross. Murkoff and her husband Erik are acting as executive producers; other producers include Phoenix Picture’s Mike Medavoy, Arnie Messer, and David Thwaites. Doug McKay is acting as co-producer.
The thought process behind making this manual into a rom-com is to send it in the vein of “Love Actually”, where five couples deal with the onset and ordeal of pregnancy. Shooting for “Expecting” is supposed to start this July.
It would seem like there’s a trend beginning to happen where movies are now being made from self-help books. This is only the latest of these types of films that are in production; earlier, Shockya reported news of Steve Harvey’s self-help book, “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man”, will be made into a film. Where the film story that can be pulled from these books are, who knows, seeing how they’re instructional books. But we’ll see how this develops.
