Michael Cera has been cast in the lead male role in the upcoming independent thriller ‘Magic, Magic,’ Variety is reporting. The movie follows a girl, who has yet to be cast, as she vacations with her friends in a remote area of Chile. She tries to inform her friends that she’s beginning to lose her rational thinking, but they don’t notice until it’s too late.
‘Magic, Magic’ is considered a surprising choice for Cera, who is known for starring in such comedic films as ‘Superbad’ and ‘Juno.’ But he reportedly wants to try a different genre, as his last three comedies, 2009’s ‘Year One’ and last year’s ‘Youth in Revolt’ and ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,’ didn’t fare well at the box office. However, the latter, which was his last on-screen appearance, was met with critical acclaim.
Sebastian Silva is on board to write and direct ‘Magic, Magic.’ Mike White and Christine Vachom will produce the comedy, which will begin filming once the female lead is cast.
