It’s being reported in an exclusive story by The Hollywood Reporter that Alec Baldwin has dropped out of the film adaptation of “Rock of Ages”.
“Rock of Ages” Director Adam Shankman had said March 5 that he had confirmation that Baldwin was going to appear in the film. “Based on info I got today, I’m gonna confirm Alec Baldwin as Dennis in ‘Rock of Ages’. Hollah,” he wrote on Twitter. The character Baldwin was set to play is Dennis Dupree, an ex-rocker and owner of The Bourbon Room, the nightclub at the heart of the film. But now, Baldwin has decided against doing the film.
Will Ferrell and Steve Carell were both offered the role of Dennis, but both passed.
“Rock of Ages” will star Diego Gonzalez Boneta along with Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, Julianne Hough, and Paul Giamatti. The film is an adaptation of the popular Broadway musical which follows an up-and-coming rocker who has aspirations for the big time, but finds he has to fight off an aging rock star for the love of a small-town girl who has dreams of becoming an actress. The film is set to be in theaters June 1, 2012.
