According to Movieline, a newcomer to Hollywood has been cast in Baz Lurhmann’s production of “The Great Gatsby”.

The actress cast is Elizabeth Debicki, an Australian native. Debicki will play the part of Jordan Baker, the avid golfer who catches Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire)’s attention.

According to Movieline’s sister site, Deadline, had an interview with Lurhmann, in which he said Debicki has a “chemical connectivity to Tobey Maguire.”

The book “The Great Gatsby” tells the story of a self-made millionaire living in ritzy New England. Nick, his friend and narrator of the story, relays to the audience the sordid secrets surrounding Gatsby and his posh friends and neighbors. The cast includes Isla Fisher as Myrtle, Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, and Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan. Ben Affleck wanted to play Tom Buchanan, but had to give it up due to scheduling conflicts with his movie “Argo”. Lurhmann’s adaptation, which is supposed to be filmed in 3D and shot in Australia, is set to be in theaters sometime in 2012.

Below is a video interview of Debicki (keep in mind; she really is fresh from obscurity as, according to Movieline, she’s a recent student of the Victorian College of the Arts and has no IMDB page).
