The Cannes Film Festival is underway as is the promotional campaign for the upcoming Shrek spinoff, Puss in Boots. In honor of the debut of 15 minutes of the film, Puss in Boots voice stars, Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek hit the red carpet overseas for er, a Puss party? Dancers on the boardwalk introduced Banderas and Hayek who appeared on top of a gigantic boot.
After the mini show, the duo climbed down to answer a few questions about the film, due out on November 4th, 2011. “It’s not the typical spinoff,” Hayek explained. “It really has its own space and style and feeling, sensation.” As for working with Banderas, well, Hayek didn’t. The duo has known each other for such a long time that even though they had to do their voice work separately, Hayek said, “I can feel him in the room when I’m doing it and when you see it, it really works!”
Puss in Boots isn’t the only film that brought Banderas to Cannes. He’s also in the drama competition for Pedro Almodovar’s The Skin I Live In. Banderas pointed out the intense contrast going from something more profound like The Skin I Live In to Puss in Boots. “Seeing the people laughing and stopping the movie with applause 14 times, it was very rewarding.” Banderas added, “There is a space for humor here, too. That’s important.”
