In the works since 2008, Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow and partner Mark Boal’s movie ‘Kill Bin Laden’ (a working title) has been purchased by Columbia Pictures. Acquiring the U.S. rights to the picture, the film production and distribution house plans to get the ball rolling soon, especially now that the movie should pull some serious numbers at the box office since the recent death of the al-Qaeda founder.
The announcement came today by way of Sony Co-Chairman Amy Pascal. The movie will dial in on “the black ops mission to capture or kill Osama bin Laden, which culminated in his death earlier this month during a high-stakes raid on his compound in Pakistan. Bigelow and Boal have been developing the project since 2008 and plan to incorporate recent events into the film.”
Actor Joel Edgerton of King Arthur fame, and star of Warrior, has already been nabbed to play the role of a special operative. I’m sure additional casting news surrounding Kill Bin Laden will be on the way since filming is said to be taking place this Summer!
Megan Ellison of Annapurna Pictures and Greg Shapiro will both be on board as executive producers. You can expect to see the predicted box office giant by late 2012. We’ll keep you posted on additional casting news surrounding the flick!
